Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by Royalty Free?
Many stock photo agencies offer their media under what is called a “rights managed” license agreement. If you need to use the image in additional projects, you need to re-negotiate your fees. Under “royalty free” licensing, you pay for your license once and then you are able to use the image in multiple projects over the years without ever having to pay further royalty fees to worldviewimages.com

What do you mean by Editorial Use?
Stock media that is offered for editorial use generally means that the images or video are of real-world events, people in their natural settings, or public places that are newsworthy or of general interest.  It is generally understood that no model or property releases were obtained during filming. What this means is that the media may be used to illustrate news reports, blogs, documentaries, Social Media posts of general human interest stories, books and magazines that are educational and informative.

Non-Commercial
When using media of an Editorial nature, it is considered unethical and inappropriate, even illegal, to use a person’s likeness to endorse a commercial product, religious or political ideal, without their written consent, or a signed model release that their likeness may be used for commercial use.

Our media is unique in that it is of real people in their natural habitat, living their lives.  It has a different “look and feel” from posed shots with professional models and are perfect for educational and illustrative use.

What do you mean by Unlimited Downloads?
The trend in stock media sites is to offer unlimited downloads for a small annual fee. If you have licensed media in the past, you will know that this is very generous and helpful for the user. Content creators can quickly find excellent material to illustrate their post, without having to get out their credit card for every image they want to use. The low cost of this subscription model makes it possible for creators, even on a tight budget to create amazing posts with excellent media. As Content Creators ourselves, we have a number of Annual subscriptions ourselves.  On one or two rare occasions, we have come close to reaching a daily limit at these “Unlimited Download” websites. What is the reason for MEdia sites to impose restrictions on downloads? This is to prevent abuse of the generosity and convenience of the system. There will always be some that try to take advantage of “Unlimited Download” sites and even write computer scripts to download everything. Our daily limit of 50 downloads is meant to help prevent this kind of abuse. If you know that you will be using a lot of material for one project, please allow yourself a few days to get the downloads you need for your project. Many stock media sources still charge $100 or more for one item. We are hoping that a heavy user, should they ever come up against our daily limit, will not feel frustrated, but rather appreciative of the excellent value that they have enjoyed!

What format do you deliver?
All of our instant photo downloads are in the jpeg format. Video clips have been encoded to the mp4 format using the H264 Codec.  Free versions are of a lower resolution and slightly watermarked and in HD. Video for those who have purchased an All Access Pass, will be in mp4, encoded at a bitrate of of at least 40,000K for use in professional projects. Please be advised that the video offered at World View Images has been acquired using various cameras over the last 20 years. Some of the media will be in HD and some in 4K. Most of the media has be acquired with Canon cameras and has the flavour of Canon colour science.

What pixel size are your photos?
Stock Images listed at Worldview Images come from our film shoots over the last 35 years and have been shot with a variety of cameras, both film and digital. Images taken from slides have been scanned with professional scanners. Over the years, digital cameras have improved greatly, and as a result, you will see a steady progression of image size and quality throughout our site. The lowest possible digital resolution, from cameras dating back to 2001, is still good for printing purposes up to 5×7 and more than enough resolution for social media and websites. All of the images that are being made available for free download have been sized to 1500 pixels on the long end.

Is it safe to use my Credit Card at World View Images?
Yes. Our Shopping Cart and all credit card processing is handled by trusted third party handlers such as PayPal or Stripe. You may use your international Visa and Mastercard for payments. Your Credit card information is never seen by us or stored by World View Images.

What about media releases for your images?
Unless specifically stated, no model or property releases have been obtained during the acquisition of these images. This media should be used for educational and editorial purposes only. Please do not use recognizable faces for the endorsement of products, religious, or political ideas. What this means is that you can use the images and video to illustrate your thoughtful Social Media posts, websites, YouTube Videos, documentaries, books, magazines, reports, research papers and other literature. Using Images to endorse commercial products, political or ideological positions, would be unethical and in violation of our licensing regulations.  We are happy to be able to support students, educators and NGO’s who are serving humanity. If you are looking for media for commercial endorsement, there are many excellent agencies such as Shutterstock, Envato Elements, and Getty Images, where most of the images are from photo sessions where models have been compensated for their work, and the media is licensed for commercial use.

I am a teacher at a school. I would like to make your images available to my students for their reports and presentations. Is it OK to do that with just one Annual Pass?
Most teachers find that the Free Pass is perfectly fine for powerpoint presentations. However, if you are teaching media and want your students to work with full resolution media, your students may certainly use the media from the school license. Depending on your school network system, you may discover restrictions of how many stations can access the same login credentials at the same time.  Depending on the size of your class, you may also find that you reach the 50 download-limit/day rather quickly.

Are there any other restrictions on my use of the images that I download?
Yes. Please be sure to read our license agreement to become aware of use restrictions.

Do you require credit for images or video usage?
Where possible, a media credit is always appreciated, but not required. You may simply credit worldviewimages.com.
