Disabled Child in Kenya

Disabled Child in Kenya

In 1991, with the assistance of ADRA, Dr. Ken Hill, a retired physiotherapist from Nova Scotia, visited the Kendu Bay area of Kenya and started a rehabilitation program for children with disabilities. This program has grown over the years and has become known as the Community Based Rehabilitation program, or “CBR” for short. The CBR program provides poor rural communities with education about disabilities, corrective surgeries, and visits to the home by trained physical therapists The program has changed attitudes about the disabled, not only with children, teachers and parents, but also government officials. The CBR program is now being duplicated in many other parts of Kenya by other NGO’s and the government of Kenya.
